Wandering Mother

Near, but somewhere far away.

Wandering Mother explores a particular kind of absence, the feeling of someone being physically close, yet somehow somewhere else.

A mother moves forward while her daughter follows closely behind. The daughter doesn't know where they are going, but she follows with the quiet trust of a child: Mom must know the way.

The swans became an important symbol within the painting. They carry a sense of tenderness, protection, and closeness between mother and child, while their ability to fly reflects the wandering at the heart of the work, being here, yet capable of drifting somewhere far away.

At its core, the painting is also about seeing the person behind the role of a mother. Our mothers carry their own histories, fears, wounds, uncertainties, and inner worlds, parts of them we may never fully know or understand.

The work holds both sides at once: love and absence, closeness and distance, trust and uncertainty. It is a reminder that someone can be deeply loved and still feel unreachable.

Near, but somewhere far away.
