Story Behind the Painting: “Overcoming”

This painting was created during a time when my health was declining and I was searching for something that could give me hope, something that would help me reconnect with myself. I didn’t want anything overwhelming or loud; I longed for calm, for something that could hold me gently instead of consuming me.

That’s when I turned to the color blue.
Blue, like the sky, like the sea. A color that carries both depth and lightness. As I painted, it brought me peace, helping me find stillness within while still feeling alive. It reminded me of water, of movement, of freedom, of something you can almost touch, yet never truly grasp.

During that time, I felt a strong desire to return to nature, to something pure and real. To God’s creation, which reminds me that everything in life moves in cycles. That even after the darkest seasons, something always blooms again. This piece became a symbol of my own healing, a quiet reminder that beauty can grow even from pain.

I named this painting Overcoming, because that’s what it represents: the process of rising above. The gratitude that emerges through struggle. The quiet trust that every storm will eventually pass and make space for new beginnings.

I created it using a combination of Polychromos pencils and oil pastels,  a blend of precision and surrender. The fine lines reflect my need for detail, while the broader, freer strokes embody my willingness to let things unfold as they will. I also added subtle touches of acrylic paint to give the piece more structure and depth.

This painting gave me hope and strength as I created it. Now, I’m ready to let it go, trusting that it will bring the same sense of peace and renewal to its new owner.
